Current Projects

Under the supervision of Dr. Ashley Burkett, I am investigating ecophenotypic variation in benthic foraminiferal subspecies and variants of interest. The methodology incorporates 16 SSU rDNA sequencing in concert with microCT analysis to investigate questions about the effects of physical and chemical environment on test structure.

As part of my internship on the Mars 2020 mission under project scientist Dr. Ken Farley, I am going to work on some project regarding the rover that is still TBD.

I’m also working on a near-surface seismology modeling project with Dr. Vashan Wright and a geophysical characterization project with Dr. Todd Halihan.

Past Projects

Under Dr. Matteo Minghetti, my research centered around quantifying and visualizing toxic stress in Rainbow Trout cells to better understand the cellular mechanisms associated with reactive oxygen species regulation. My methodologies involved a number of dynamic, biological staining techniques and fluorescence microscopy quantification techniques. Paper here!

Under Dr. Rob Plowes, project focused on determining whether or not Solenopsis invicta (fire ants) exhibit behavioral fever as a social immune response against Kneallhazia solenopsae: a host-specific microsporidian pathogen being incorporated as a biological control. Besides using qPCR to determine , I largely spent this summer as an ant engineer trying to construct experimental chambers that could isolate temperature as the only variable. I failed lol. Guess that’s science for you.
